The finish and tile are what you see, but the equipment pad is what keeps a pool clean, efficient and easy to live with. Here is a plain-English look at the brands we build with and why equipment choices matter in the desert.
Why Equipment Matters in Southern Nevada
Las Vegas pools run hard. Long swim seasons, heat, dust and evaporation all put demands on circulation and filtration. Well-matched equipment helps keep water clear and chemistry manageable, and efficient equipment can help keep operating energy in check.
Variable-Speed Pumps and Federal Efficiency Rules
The U.S. Department of Energy sets efficiency standards for dedicated-purpose pool pumps, measured by a rating called weighted energy factor (WEF). DOE has also adopted standards for dedicated-purpose pool pump motors that require variable-speed control for many motor sizes, phased in by manufacture date beginning September 29, 2025.
Hayward describes WEF as a measure of a pump’s real-world efficiency, similar to MPG for a car, and states that its variable-speed pumps can cut energy costs by up to 90 percent compared with single-speed pumps. Actual results depend on the pool, the equipment and how it is run.
Hayward: Pumps, Automation and Control
- Variable-speed pumps that can run at lower speeds for everyday filtration and higher speeds when needed
- OmniLogic automation, which Hayward describes as controlling pumps, heaters, lighting, sanitization and water features from an app
- Freeze protection, a controller feature Hayward says can turn outputs on when freezing temperatures are detected
- Sanitization options that can be managed through the same automation
AquaStar: Components That Matter for Safety and Flow
AquaStar Pool Products manufactures pool components including VGBA-compliant drain covers, skimmers, valves, fittings, pumps and filters, along with lighting and water features. Drain covers are an important safety component, and AquaStar publishes product specifications and cut-sheets for its VGBA cover lines.
How We Choose Equipment for Your Pool
We size and select equipment for the specific pool: its volume, features, plumbing and how you plan to use it. A simple plunge pool and a pool with a spa, spillover and lighting have very different needs.
If equipment brand and efficiency are a priority for you, tell us at the start. It is one of the clearest signs we will be a good fit.
If you’d like to talk it through, call Clarity at 702-839-9265 or book a consultation. We’ll tell you honestly whether we’re the right builder for your project.
